UAIC will contribute to the creation of a European Campus through the EC2U project

In the week of November 23-27, the EC2U University Alliance Project was launched, through which the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi (UAIC) will contribute to the creation of a European Campus.

“European Campus of City-Universities” – EC2U – is the title of the project through which Romania’s first modern university will innovate in education and research together with six other member universities of the Coimbra Group: Universities in Jena (Germany), Pavia (Italy), Poitiers (France, project coordinator), Salamanca (Spain), Turku (Finland) and Coimbra (Portugal).

During the week, the Governing Council, the Executive Committee and the EC2U Working Groups presented in detail the activities and objectives of the project in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. With few exceptions, most activities will be able to be performed according to schedule, even if the interaction will take place online.

“Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi will coordinate innovation activities in education by creating, in collaboration with partner universities, a new interdisciplinary master’s program – Lifelong well-being and Healthy Aging – and a Virtual Research Institute in the field of the third goal of the United Nations 2030 Agenda: Good Health and Well-Being. The new study program will be subject to ARACIS accreditation in the next period and will be included in the academic offer of the partner universities for the academic year 2021-2022.

Other activities that will be carried out within the project include participation in the creation of two more virtual research institutes – in the fields of quality education and sustainable development of cities -, communication of scientific results to the community, conferences, summer schools, cultural events and common sports, the creation of a common virtual platform, as well as activities that bring together students, communities, representatives of the economic environment, local and national authorities from the seven cities involved.

The EC2U Alliance will thus create a university campus with a European dimension, illustrating European values and contributing to the formation of an intelligent higher education ecosystem through a new model of quality education in an inclusive civic society.
