The NBR has decided today, in the first monetary policy meeting of 2020, to keep the key interest rate at 2.5% and the interest rate level for the deposit facility at 1.5% per year. Also, the Central Bank kept the interest rate related to the lending facility at 3.50% per year and the current levels of minimum reserve rates applicable to liabilities in lei and foreign currency of credit institutions. The decision taken by the NBR today is in line with analysts’ expectations, many of them being of the opinion that the central bank can keep the key interest rate at 2.5% throughout 2020 or until the parliamentary elections.
