More than 400 grocery stores opened their doors in 2019, making it the best year in the history of local modern commerce, a history that began to be written in 1996 with the opening of the first Metro Cash & Carry units. By comparison, between 250 and 300 units were opened in previous years. Foreign networks have thus invested over 300 million euros this year in the opening of new hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores, discount and cash & carry, according to ZF estimates.
