The total production of legumes (peas, beans, lupine, hazelnuts and lentils) of the European Union was 4.11 million tonnes in 2018, and the total area allocated to these crops was 2.17 million hectares, ie a slightly smaller area. than that of the island of Sardinia, shows the data published by Eurostat on Monday. In the case of Romania, Eurostat data show that the production of legumes varies significantly from year to year. If in 2016 Romania’s legume production was about 99,000 tonnes, in 2017 it tripled to 301,000 tonnes, so that in 2018 it would fall to 191,000 tonnes, and in 2019 it increased to 265,000 tonnes.
